IF DERMSHIELD WAS APPLIED
Leave the bandage on for 3-5 days.
The bandage is running-water proof, meaning it’s ok to shower with it but you’re not supposed to submerge it under water (no baths and absolutely no swimming!)
Avoid activity that will cause you to sweat excessively in the bandaged area if you can.
Avoid exposing the bandage or tattoo to direct sun for approximately one month.
Expect fluid to build up under the bandage, but don’t worry, it’s just plasma mixed with ink - it looks weird and gross, I know! But leave it alone.
The edges of the bandage may peel away from the skin, which is fine. But if the bandage peels away enough to leave the tattoo exposed, you should remove it and skip to the regular care process below.
If you notice any redness or irritation where the bandage is, remove it right away.
When it’s time to remove your bandage, do it slowly under warm water and wash the tattoo gently with soap.
On the following day, apply a very light coat of coconut oil - a couple of times a day at the most (just enough to cover it, you do not want the tattoo to be wet or gooey!)
Remember, the bandage accelerates the healing process but it doesn’t mean your tattoo is already fully healed. Give it another week or so.
REGULAR CARE
Leave the wrap on for a at least two hours.
Remove the wrap slowly and wash the tattoo gently with liquid soap if you can - bar soaps can be drying. I recommend Dr. Bronners.
Keep washing your tattoo with soap but don’t apply any products until the 2nd day.
On the 2nd day, apply a very light coat of coconut oil or unscented lotion 2-3 times a day for about a week. Make sure your hands are clean before doing so. I recommend fragrance-free Aveeno or Lubriderm.
Remember, less is better. You want to put enough lotion to cover your tattoo but you do not want it to be wet or gooey. That can trouble your healing process.
Do not submerge the tattoo in water until completely healed (approximately two weeks).
Avoid exposing the tattoo to direct sun for approximately one month.
Your skin may flake or scab, and become very itchy. Do not attempt to remove this, just let the area heal naturally and try not to scratch it.
